The greatest thing you'll ever learn...

...is just to love, and be loved in return."
Ahhh, the most beautiful song sung by Nat King Cole. I am a sucker for good ol' American song book tunes ever since my mother would play them on the piano from the stacks of sheet music passed on from her mother. I can't help but love the simple and truthful lyrics and the romantic images put into words by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby and of course Ella and Louis.
Check out this beautiful rendition of "Nature Boy":

So, since it is the day of all things lovey-dovey....and I've eaten half a heart-shaped box worth of chocolate for breakfast...I wish you all a very merry St. Valentine's Day.-Jessie, Santa Fe, NM

  1. ok, two things:
    1. i just started an etching at the studio on friday that features a flying fish, and they're all over that sweet little video. yes!! an excellent coincidence.
    2. have you seen baz luhrmann's Moulin Rouge? many have mixed feelings, but i must admit, it's one of my favorites (you know, guilty-pleasure musical flick). bohemian paris + great mix of music, including "Nature Boy."

  2. in regards to coincidences....i'm conviced someone is following me sometimes.

in regards to le moulin rouge, yes i am a fan....and so is a certain someone in this house (not naming any names) but he may or may not have watched in at least 16 times. he claims it was "just on every night" and he happened to be home.(????) similarly, he reminded me that "nature boy" was also sung by ewan mcgregor. i think we should host a parisian movie night too, btw.

  3. Ohh Jessie Bird!.. taking after your mother! Hah! I remember past chatter of brownies for breakfast.. heh hehh! You are taking after her in many ways... Happy Valentine's! I too, ate chocolate, reeses hearts and hershey's kisses for breakfast.. a divine way to start the day.. hee heee.. Thanks for sharing "Nature Boy"!! It's so sweet that you have fond memories of your mother and singing! It's so lovely that your mom played the piano and sang with you. I love how music makes our hearts sing and taps us in to our rythym.

"Nature Boy" is such a lovely, dear song. What a fantastic, intricate moving art piece you found. I want to share that with everyone I know! I love the story of "The Little Prince". The claymation movie of "The Little Prince" is dear to my heart and a must see!
    Lovies! Zuzu

  4. Well, miss Jessie, I do believe that we are kindred spirits...between the fibromylagia, masses of yarn, collections of cooking magazines, and love of old classic music...Gershwin, Cole Porter...all those lovely tunes and lyrics and no one did it like the musical stars of the "golden era" at mgm...I seriously watch those old movies over and over and over. My maternal grandfather is a jazz pianist so he instilled the love of all that music in us. Just S'wonderful!! :)
